"Sun Without the Heat," the vibrant fifth album from Leyla McCallaBorn in New York to Haitian activist parents, Leyla McCalla draws inspiration from her past and present, creating vibrant music that reflects three centuries of history and global influences. A master of the cello, tenor banjo, and guitar, she offers a distinctive sound that blends her roots and her experience. A founding member of Our Native Daughters and a former member of the Black string band The Carolina Chocolate Drops, McCalla releases her fifth album, "Sun Without the Heat," blending joy and pain in a musical exploration of Afro-diasporic influences. Her previous album, "Breaking the Thermometer," was critically acclaimed for its social and musical engagement. McCalla, currently Artist in Residence at the University of Richmond, continues to explore the possible mutations of her music.
