ATMA Classique joyfully reissues Simphonies des noëls, the first album by Les Violons du Roy and Bernard Labadie, originally released in 1994 under the Dorian label. An album that has lost none of its freshness and sonic beauty, even more than 20 years after its initial release. Since the Middle Ages, the Christmas celebration has been marked by music in churches, first in plainchant, then with polyphonic motets. In the Baroque era, depending on the country, cantatas, concertos, and variations on well-known hymns were added. Simphonies des noëls features instrumental works associated with the Nativity, by various composers from France (De Lalande, Charpentier), Italy (Sammartini, Torelli, Corelli), and Germany (Pez).
