This 4 CD box set features three of the most beautiful sacred works from the repertoire performed by the Les petits chanteurs de Sainte-Croix de Neuilly, one of the most renowned children's choirs in France, conducted by François Polgar, who is himself a leading figure in choral singing and a renowned arranger. Among these 3 works, "La Passion selon St Jean" by Jean-Sébastien Bach is a new recording made in early 2014, and perhaps the most beautiful work by the German composer written in 1724 shortly after his arrival in Leipzig. The work is here elevated by the children's choir accompanied by the college of sacred music, an orchestra specialized in performing on period instruments, and whose members are all professional musicians from the orchestras of Radio France, the Opéra de Paris, etc. There are also two reissues, including Pergolèse's "Stabat Mater" recorded in 2001, this version is a world premiere. It is indeed a version for children's voices, alto, and soprano, accompanied by the Ensemble Seicentonovecento (two violins, viola, cello, double bass, and organ). The second reissue is the magnificent Requiem by Fauré recorded in 1989 and accompanied on the organ by Jean-François Hatton, masterfully concluding this Cantus Angelicus box set.
