Description

The Marx Sisters' music is full and generous: at times festive and joyful, at others melancholic and moving. Their repertoire is drawn directly from Yiddish song and klezmer music. For this second album, the group gathered around a title track: Arum dem Fayer (around the fire). We huddle around the fire when darkness and cold prevail. Fire animates us when we fight, when we build barricades, or when we fight for our lives and our dignity. In the Jewish religion, fire can symbolize divine power, the memory of the departed, or the entry into a particular time. The Marx Sisters embrace the Yiddish language and celebrate it by performing traditional pieces as well as more recent songs or those translated from Hebrew, and even Catalan.
