With Alouette!, Les Louanges explores his human condition and his Québécois identity by highlighting the guitar and joual (the French dialect of Quebec), while retaining his characteristic rhythms. More rock than his previous albums, this third opus is luminous and rich in sounds, emotions, and political reflections. It unfolds like a journey that will lead Loulou to confront universal experiences such as illness, death, and true love. This album is also the fruit of an artistic quest begun during a period of introspection, when Vincent Roberge (aka Les Louanges or Loulou) took advantage of a break after his last long tour. To the existential questions typical of approaching thirty was added a rediscovery of classics — from Leonard Cohen and Prince to Richard Desjardins and the nursery rhyme that gives the album its name — followed by a total exploration. In addition to playing most of the instruments himself, the singer-songwriter resurrected obscure Québécois records through sampling and tried his hand at sound recording. Roberge co-produced Alouette! with his longtime collaborator, Félix Petit (because why change a winning formula?). Four years after the success of his second album, Crash, Les Louanges returns more confident than ever, armed with a renewed cultural and emotional background that allows him to look back at the past to better understand the present, while fully appreciating it. All this, without neglecting the future, which he views with hope despite the collective challenges that await us.
