Although regularly performed, little information has come down to us about Handel's Dixit Dominus. The work of a 22-year-old composer, it reflects, through its impressive virtuosity, the state of mind of the Handel of that time: fiery, bold, and sensitive. Surrounded by the Argonautes and a splendid soloist lineup (Roset, Allérat, Pichanick, Billiemaz, and Mazurov), Jonas Descotte here chooses a reduced ensemble to deliver a renewed interpretation, guided by dramatic intention, generosity, precision, and flexibility of line. And to respond to the genius of the Saxon, the ensemble summons Lotti, his friend and mentor, with his Dixit Dominus, a Crucifixus for 5 voices, and his Miserere mei, replying to this three-hundred-year-old youth with fire, maturity, and exceptional finesse.
