L'Épée is a real surprise: the group is made up of Emmanuelle Seigner (Ultra Orange & Emmanuelle, wife of Roman Polanski), Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre) and Lionel and Marie Limiñana (The Limiñanas)!Ruby red vinyl! The idea for the project germinated last year, when The Limiñanas recorded an album with Anton Newcombe. The French actress, singer, model and muse Emmanuelle Seigner lent her voice to one track. During the studio recording, an unexpected group dynamic emerged and the four found themselves forming a band. They named themselves L'Épée, after a sword appeared to Anton in a dream."We live in a time of cultural retreat, so it's really stimulating to go against the current," Anton says of the group's bilingual and transcontinental approach: "There is something very positive about opening up to the world, collaborating and taking risks." The album was recorded in Cabestany, France, and at Anton's Cobra studio in Berlin. The group's creative energy gave birth to an extraordinary debut album, Diabolique. Named after Mario Bava's cult film Danger: Diabolik, it is a musical masterpiece that blends garage, yé-yé, sleaze rock, film scores, science fiction, western and girl-group pop-noir.It is an album overflowing with emotional energy and diverse ideas.
