{"product_id":"leo-mcfall_concertos-pour-basson_2020","title":"Concertos pour basson","description":"A program centered around the bassoon? The initiative by the Genuin label is sure to delight many music lovers by highlighting this instrument with its warm, deep tones, reminiscent of the grandfather in \"Peter and the Wolf.\" Eager to explore a neglected concert repertoire, bassoonist Théo Plath, accompanied by an exemplary Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, has brought together four composers for the occasion: two from the classical era (Weber and Crusell) and two from the contemporary period (Jolivet and Bitsch). The bassoon concerto by Carl Maria von Weber and the concertino by Bernhard Henrik Crusell are two classical works, particularly joyful, featuring a lively and melodic final movement. Conductor Léo Mac Flatt leads them with precise, clear gestures, taking care of their rhythmic articulations. With Marcel Bitsch and André Jolivet, the atmosphere changes. The meditative quality of Bitsch's concertino transports the listener into a realm of elegiac poetry. Jolivet's bassoon concerto, with string orchestra and harp, develops broad melodic curves; the gentle attacks in the low register suggest a sensual feeling of surrender and desire. In this eclectic, original program, delivered with superlative sound quality, the bassoon is brought back into the spotlight, and it is only fair.
