Born in 1904 in Grape Grove Township, Missouri, Lena Hughes is the quintessential amateur musician who achieved artist status through her influence at folk conventions and festivals in the Ozarks. Without any particular ambition, she was nonetheless an excellent fiddle, banjo, and guitar player, yet only released one album before her death in 1998. Recorded in Arkansas in the 1960s, these tracks were originally released on an uncommercialized LP and have now been remastered by Chris King. Design by Susan Archie.
