The Suite Andamane is inspired by a journey in the Andaman Sea between India and Thailand. It tells the story of a day of travel in four movements. We awaken with the first movement by the sea. The second movement follows a winding path in the mountains and traverses a \"jazz\" fugato where classical writing flirts with swing and improvisation. The third movement dives into a nap at the Zenith, in the shade of a pagoda. Finally, the fourth movement represents a cosmic sunset by the sea. I wanted to bring stylistic richness by blending genres. For example, I greatly enjoyed writing a jazz fugato (a small fugue) where the entries playfully succeed one another between saxophones, trumpet, and trombone. But there are also passages inspired by the colors of Ravel or Debussy, even completely improvised moments, and others closer to the jazz of Ellington, Mingus, or George Russell. I have also been interested in sung music for some time. I have often worked with singers, such as Jeanne Added or Elisabeth Kontomanou, and this new collaboration with Chloé Cailleton was crucial in the completion of the project. I set several poems to music for this album. In this work around poetry, I try to follow the poem's progression and create a musical form that respects and enhances its dramatic springs with its breaths and climaxes. This album represents a concentration of these adventures: the richness of timbres and writing of the nonet combined with the excellence of the improvisers.
