Here is the debut studio album from the highly acclaimed South Korean psych-pop pansori group, available worldwide. This release follows a year filled with success and events for LEENALCHI. The band completed their very first North American tour, opening for Japanese Breakfast at Stern Grove, and recorded sessions for KCRW and (rumor has it) KEXP. This fall, they will be on the East Coast of the United States, including opening for Geese at Forest Hills on the same day as the album's release (October 2). LEENALCHI is led by the talented composer Jang Young-Gyu, who has undoubtedly composed the music for all your favorite Korean horror films, such as The Wailing, Train to Busan, and The Good, the Bad, and the Weird. "Sugungga" evokes animals communicating with each other over soaring bass lines. The title is derived from an old Korean folktale that tells the story of a clever and loyal turtle trying to lure a rabbit underwater, into the lair of a Dragon King suffering from an illness that only the rabbit's liver can cure.
