When it was released in 1971, Africa's Blood was the first record Lee "Scratch" Perry released under his own name, although his band The Upsetters appear on most tracks. If there's one album that offers a window into what was happening in Jamaican music in the early 70s, it's Africa's Blood. There's an undeniable influence of contemporary American R&B, but Perry's signature dub and reggae fusion still shines through.
