After years spent as an artist and producer in the Jamaican music industry, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry unveiled his very own Upsetter Records imprint in the late spring of 1968. In the months that immediately followed, his exceptional talent was repeatedly substantiated by the release of a number of popular 7” singles, the most successful of these being his pioneering breakthrough hit, ‘People Funny Boy’. During the summer of ’68, the brand new Trojan Records had acquired exclusive rights to Perry’s productions and issued the very best of these on the company’s flagship label before launching a British version of his Upsetter imprint early the following year. This luxurious 7” singles box set collection comprises original-issue faithful reproductions of the first ten 45s that were launched in the UK at the time, each pressed on high quality vinyl and presented in specially developed cardboard sleeves. This elegantly designed collection also includes a folded poster-sized insert featuring an authoritative essay on Perry by official biographer David Katz.
