"Songs of Passion" was conceived by Thomas Dunford and Lea Desandre as an emotional journey through vocal and instrumental works by two wonderful English composers, Dowland and Purcell. Both knew how to celebrate love, Dowland with his refined and melancholic melodies, Purcell with the first Baroque operas Dido and Aeneas or The Fairy Queen - and their moving airs, magnificently performed by Lea Desandre, the Jupiter ensemble under the inspired direction of Thomas Dunford, also joined by Hugh MontagueRendall, Laurence Kilsby, Alex Rosen and Jess Dandy. This record is a bit like a family album in the way it brings together a circle of people who share a common musical language.
