Behind Late Runner is songwriter Asger Tarpgaard, also known for Private and Lightwave Empire. "The music industry is young (or focuses on the young), and I am not," says Tarpgaard about Late Runner. "It's only now, in my fifties, that I can make the music I'm making. I wasn't ready to do it until now." This explains his stage name. Late Runner offers dreamy, soberly composed indie-pop. Drawing inspiration from The Beach Boys, Air, Beck, The Beatles and their solo periods, as well as nu-disco, he blends modern clarity with "classics," 70s rock, folk, and 00s indie. It's thoughtful music, expressed through Asger Tarpgaard's vulnerable and warm voice and his introspective lyrics. His debut solo album was released in 2021 and was critically acclaimed.
