Following the success of the first album (nearly 300,000 copies sold, 1 Victoire de la Musique award, and a sold-out tour), -M- reignited the collective's spirit at the request of Toumani Diabaté, alongside his son Balla Diabaté and Malian diva Fatoumata Diawara.
Eight months after the album's production, Toumani Diabaté suddenly passed away in Bamako. Carried by the power of his kora, an instrument with a totemic role in Malian culture, the album was then named Lamomali Totem and dedicated to him.
Twelve tracks, each an open door to the world, ranging from mixed-genre funk to poignant ballads and captivating rhythms.
This new chapter sees the return of some artists from 2017 – Oxmo Puccino, Amadou & Mariam, Ibrahim Maalouf, Seu Jorge, Philippe Jaroussky – joined by Patrick Watson, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Angelique Kidjo, Yâmé, and Boombass.
Lamomali Totem, the album by -M-, Fatoumata Diawara, Toumani & Balla Diabaté, available April 25, 2025.
