Alternating between the role of soloist and that of Konzertmeisterin, Saténik Khourdoïan, a talented young violinist, signs her first recording collaboration with the Orchestre symphonique de la Monnaie and its musical director, the highly regarded conductor Alain Altinoglu, with an exciting program. Best known to the general public for his ballet Swan Lake, P. I. Tchaikovsky, a composer of heightened romanticism, is also highly appreciated for his concert works. His Violin Concerto, considered one of the most virtuosic and one of the most performed in the world, was written during a time when he was overflowing with love for one of his students, Iosif Kotek, to whom he originally intended to dedicate this work. The ballet Swan Lake, for its part, offers some of the most beautiful pages written for the violin, with certain excerpts chosen for this album. As an encore after these two major works, the conductor swaps his baton for the piano, and the duo presents the Valse sentimentale as a nostalgic dream.
