Zimerman, Rattle, Lutoslawski, a meeting at the summitThis new album continues the collaboration between Krystian Zimerman and Sir Simon Rattle, already awarded a German Record Critics' Award for their recording of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1 on the yellow label, with the Berliner Philharmoniker.The Piano Concerto by Lutoslawski, dedicated to Krystian Zimerman and completed in 1988, was presented to the public in Salzburg the same year.In 1992 Deutsche Grammophon released a first version with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lutoslawski himself.Lutoslawski's Symphony No. 2, just like the Piano Concerto, is inspired by the music of John Cage.Created according to the technique of "limited aleatoricism" (Lutoslawski), it fascinates with its orchestral surfaces that offer a glimpse of the composer's genius, playing with sounds and their color in a very precise way.It was performed for the first time in its entirety in Katowice on June 9, 1967, by the National Symphony Orchestra of Polish Radio, conducted by Lutoslawski.
