Krononaut is a group of shapeshifters that expands in time and, in the space of two sessions recorded in early 2019 in London, managed to produce ten pieces of deeply immersive instrumental music. Their debut album is released on the Tak:til label, Glitterbeat's experimental offshoot. At the heart of the project, we find Leo Abrahams on production and guitar, a guitar that lit up 'Small Craft On A Milk Sea', one of Brian Eno's best albums of the last two decades. Alongside him is drummer Martin France, whose list of collaborators includes Evan Parker, Nils Petter Molvaer, and Elvis Costello. Bassist Shahzad Ismaily (Tom Waits, Laurie Anderson, Marc Ribot) participated in the first session. Leo guided him by playing Madoh, funeral music from Tajikistan, whose unique rhythms ended up influencing the guitar and drums on this record. For the second session, the duo was joined by bassist Tim Harries (June Tabor, Byrne \u0026 Eno), American saxophonist Matana Roberts, and the trumpet maestro, the Swedish Arve Henriksen. With the exception of Henriksen's magnificent melodic lines, 'Krononaut' was improvised live and without overdubs. Yet, the album's soundscapes are never confused or blurry. This surely comes from a spiritual influence on the project: the pioneer and avant-gardist Morton Feldman, whose structures are contemplative rather than directional.
