Aha shake heartbrake

Raised in Nashville, where music cannot cheat, the Followill brothers (Caleb, Jared, Nathan) and their guitarist cousin (Matthew) made headlines in 2003 with "Youth And Young Manhood," a debut album of rock that is more basic than truly Southern, earning them comparisons to all the musicians known for their straightforwardness, from Creedence Clearwater Revival to Oasis, as well as Neil Young and Tom Petty. To recover from a turmoil they weren't really prepared for, the KOL returned home in early 2004 to write the songs for this second album, which they recorded quickly in LA. "A-Ha Shake Heartbreak," drawn from the same well of blues and country-rock influences as its predecessor, sounds just slightly more mature, which, in this case, is a compliment. Characterized by writing that is as fresh as it is honest and a no-frills production, "Taper Jean Girl," "The Bucket," and "Day Old Blues" get straight to the point, but it is especially "King Of The Rodeo," "Milk," and "Velvet Snow" that captivate with their timelessness. Kings Of Leon have invented suspended rock, ageless and timeless.
