Discipline

Description

Discipline was originally released in 1981: It marks the band's resurgence after a seven-year hiatus, during which Robert Fripp worked with various artists, such as Peter Gabriel for whom he produced the second solo album, Brian Eno, and David Bowie on Heroes among others. At the beginning of 1981, Fripp contacted Bill Bruford (a survivor from the previous incarnation of King Crimson), Tony Levin (who had collaborated with Peter Gabriel, among others), and Adrian Belew (who had played with Frank Zappa and the Talking Heads) to form a new group called Discipline. They ultimately took the name King Crimson for the recording of the album, which has a sound heavily influenced by new wave. Its cover features a circular figure of Celtic interlacing, silver on a red background. The original version of the album used a pattern derived from an interlace found in George Bain's book Celtic Art, the Methods of Construction (1951). It was not used for the cover of the remastered version of Discipline, released in 2001, to avoid potential legal disputes. Instead, the remastered version uses a different pattern, designed by Steve Ball in 1992 to serve as the logo for Discipline Global Mobile, Robert Fripp's label.
