The prodigious American songwriter delivers a stripped-down, atmospheric, poetic, and timeless masterpiece. "In the winter of 2017, I moved back to my hometown of Kansas City. This return was sudden and unexpected, just as I was finalizing the writing of my 2019 album, *Oh My God*. I bought a Tascam 424 four-track to finish *Oh My God*, but to my surprise, this new equipment, instead of helping me finish one album, inspired another: *Sundowner*. These new songs were created quickly, without frills. In January 2019, I contacted my friend and producer Brad Cooke to help me recreate what I had conceived at home. We chose to record in Texas. Brad plays bass and keyboards but encouraged me to play the other instruments: guitar, drums, mellotron, and harmonium." Kevin Morby
