‘Night and the City’ is the third in a series of Charlie Haden's duet projects for Verve in the 1990s. Since the mid-70s, after the great collective and utopian struggles, the artist has made musical conversation his specialty, as if returning to basics.
Recorded live at New York's Iridium Jazz Club in 1996, the artist engages in a loving and discreet tête-à-tête with pianist Kenny Barron, full of sobriety and introspective lyricism. Music that is both seductive and audacious, gently nostalgic, oscillating between the deep and melancholic bass and the precious harmonies of a piano resolutely anchored in jazz history.
