A Multitude of Angels is a box set of four CDs from a series of solo concerts given by Keith Jarrett in Italy in October 1996. These document the epilogue of Jarrett's experiments with long improvisations during performances in Modena, Ferrara, Turin, and Genoa. "These were the last concerts I gave without interruption between each set," Jarrett explains in the liner notes. The curve that the music takes is characteristic of Jarrett's playing: "Jazz is omnipresent alongside my deep affinity with classical music (both modern and ancient, Ives and Bach)." This box set is thus a witness to a pivotal time in Jarrett's musical and exploratory career.
