Afghan singer Elaha Soroor and producer duo Kefaya (Al MacSween and Giuliano Modarelli) combine their talents for a poignant and mesmerizing album that blends a fresh and vibrant take on Afghan folk music with spiritual jazz, electronica, and traditional Indian music. Arranged and recorded in Oxford, the album is inspired by the condition of women in Afghanistan and the story of Elaha, who rose to fame through the reality TV show Afghan Star but was forced to flee the country, persecuted for her outspoken views on women's rights. Kefaya and Elaha thus produced a joint project, driven by a common desire to use music as a tool for dialogue and political action. The album features collaborations with many world-renowned musicians, reflecting the desire to present an internationally unified front in musical and political expression.
