Description

He bears the name of a legendary king, but it is under the name Kazy Lambist that Arthur Dubreucq has been making his mark in the electronic pop scene for a few years now. At just 25 years old, the young man, who is releasing his first album 33 000 Ft. today, already has an impressive background. His early tracks caught the attention of Radio Nova (the station heavily played the song Doing Yoga) and Les Inrocks (Kazy Lambist won the public prize at the Les inRocKs Lab competition in 2015). Posted online, his songs have been listened to hundreds of thousands of times, opening the doors of his fan club to some notable names. Abroad, Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro and English director Ana Lily Amirpour have both expressed their love for Kazy Lambist's music in enthusiastic tweets. In France, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac praised the young man's work, and the two artists eventually collaborated: Kazy Lambist composed the soundtrack for Dessin-Destin, an exhibition by JCDC at La Panacée in Montpellier - the project later resulted in a vinyl released for Record Store Day, for which JCDC designed the cover. To this already impressive journey, we must add two EPs, The City released this year, and in 2016, The Coast, on which he already hinted at his style with the track All I Wanna Do: "All I wanna do: make music and love." Numerous DJ sets in France and abroad, as well as a successful series of concerts, including a sold-out show at Gaîté Lyrique even before the album's release, complete this rich CV. "Everything happened very quickly," Arthur summarizes today. "At first, I had simply posted a few tracks on Soundcloud. I didn't expect all of this." The album was initiated in a country house near Angoulême and completed in the Parisian studio of sound engineer Julien Delfaud (already seen alongside Phoenix, Sage, or Woodkid…). From the inaugural Love Song, a track with an aquatic groove built around an instrumental by Glasses, the tone is set: Kazy Lambist creates remarkable bridges between pop and electronic music, delivering an immediately captivating writing style. 33 000 Ft. lives up to its name: it is an airy, vaporous record that performs beautiful acrobatics between pop ballads (Away, composed on an old acoustic guitar), dance invitations (Orion, Do You, or The Essential, irresistible little hits that would not have embarrassed Metronomy, a claimed influence), and urban daydreams (The City is Beautiful and its delicate groove). An album made for long summer nights, 33 000 Ft. celebrates pop in its most beautiful forms: soaring, sensual, danceable, melancholic… "I like the idea of composing naive music: I don't see that as a flaw, quite the opposite. Rather than focusing on a specific idea, I aim to create music based on emotions." Challenge met with flying colors: 33 000 Ft. is a high-flying debut album.
