Description

Katia and Marielle Labèque's attachment to their birthplace is well known. They decide to pay tribute to their roots by performing a repertoire that brings together works by Basque composers from the Renaissance to the present day. The album Amoria ("love" in euskara) thus delves into the heart of Basque culture with composers who have managed to blend popular roots with so-called classical music. Accompanied by the ensemble Hegiak, countertenor Carlos Mena, the choir Escolanía Easo Araoz Gazte, and Elena de Murguia Erreta on viola da gamba, the two pianists revisit five centuries of music, with euskara, the Basque language, as a backdrop, culminating in a jubilant Boléro.
