Using Studio Dandurand in Montreal and the legendary Studio Wild in St-Zenon as their laboratory, the five musicians were able to explore at length, away from distractions. 'We only imposed one rule on ourselves: arrive at the studio empty-handed and with an open mind. We created everything on site, all together,' emphasizes François Lafontaine. Of the 28 songs developed, nine made their way into the final version. For Julien Sagot, 'we had to avoid falling into the 'pizza album' trap. We wanted to create a coherent and organic whole, guided by our instincts and not by expectations.' Sometimes cinematic, often luminous, never mundane, Dans la seconde gives pride of place to musical explorations. One enters through the instrumental door, the opening track setting the stage for a trio that echoes the major issues of our time (Parfaite à l'écran, à bout portant, Gravite). Then one settles down, for an introspective and delicately intertwined aerial duo (Le miroir de John Wayne, Nouvelle vague). Then comes the title track (Dans la seconde), a pivotal piece that suspends time before guiding us towards an almost serene exit despite the themes addressed (L'échafaud, Du courage pour deux).
