A dynamic and sublime work, rich in emotion and sensibility, From Where You Came, Kara-Lis Coverdale’s first album since 2017, unfolds as a series of nocturnal transmissions, altered-state refinements, and living histories, rich in vibrant and illuminating qualities. Drawing from 19th-century programmatic music, mid-1970s jazz, and her colorful, multidimensional approach to composition, which encompasses improvisation, Kara-Lis Coverdale weds synthesis with live instrumentation in a genreless but clearly identifiable gesture of reconnection to land and body through sound. Featuring contributions from multidisciplinary sound artist and cellist Anne Bourne and Grammy Award-winning trombone prodigy Kalia Vandever, the album's 11 compositions, both vast and condensed, integrate strings, woodwinds, brass, synths, software, and modular synthesis, inscribing a musical language that causes animations to resonate with unfiltered and gripping clarity.
