After more than 280 concerts, Jupiter & Okwess are back with a new album entitled Na Kozonga, an explosion of energy that bewitches the body and nourishes the spirit. From the beginning, this ambassador of Congolese music and his pyro-technician comrades have made it their mission to pull Congolese rhythms out of obscurity and reveal their superpowers: those of rock and funk, ready for all kinds of musical assemblages and all types of invitations! Following a stunning Latin American tour, Na Kozonga was recorded in Los Angeles, the most Latin city in the United States, in the studios of Mario Caldato Jr (Beastie Boys, Seu Jorge, Beck, Bjork, Blur, John Lee Hooker, Manu Chao). From the samba of Rogê from Rio to the rap of Brazilian pioneer Marcelo D2, passing through the brass of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band from New Orleans, the voice of French-Chilean activist Ana Tijoux, the riffs of guitarist Yarol Poupaud or the soulful voice of American Maiya Sykes, Jupiter & Okwess fear neither surprising encounters nor the wildest journeys. Through these encounters, Na Kozonga brings us back to the American shores, where the dark history of slavery gave birth to luminous music.
