MILES AND MEMORIES

Description

Julian Sas's new album, "Miles And Memories," marks the guitarist's return to his preferred classic blues-rock trio format—vocals/guitar, bass, and drums—with a greater emphasis on rock and a little less on blues. When asked about his influences, Julian Sas replied: when I hear Jeff Beck play, my fingers start to itch. He plays with such simplicity and yet with such fanaticism. Incredible. I'm also a huge fan of Jimi Hendrix. He still hasn't been surpassed. Stevie Ray Vaughan? I think he's a fantastic musician, but the difference between Jimi and him is that if you heard him every night, you'd notice only minor differences in his playing. Whereas Jimi could stumble on his strings one night and the next be so brilliant that you'd seriously consider selling all your gear. Jimi knew no limits. What he wanted to do with Miles Davis is fascinating. I'm a real fan of Miles Davis. He's the Jimi of the jazz world. At 16, I saw Buddy Guy. He played with great dynamics. Dynamics, in my opinion, are one of the most important tools in music, such as a quiet song with a strong bridge or a strong song with a very quiet bridge. And of course, Rory Gallagher, my biggest hero. I had the privilege and honor of playing with his band three times. The Allman Brothers are fantastic too. Once they start, there's no stopping them. Just like for my band and me when we're on stage.
