Description

In 1607, Claudio Monteverdi created his Orfeo in Mantua for the opening of the Carnival in the Court Theater of Duke Vincenzo I Gonzaga. For the first time in the history of music, real characters are animated by deeply moving human emotions: with this exceptional dramatic power, modern opera was born. Stéphane Fuget, a great specialist in this repertoire and its historical instrumentation, after Le Retour d'Ulysse dans sa Patrie, brings together for this new Orfeo vocal and instrumental virtuosos of the highest caliber: it is to the splendid and sensitive Julian Prégardien that he entrusts the title role, to sing all the magnificences of the first true hero in the history of Opera.
