Like his father, reggae pioneer Bob Marley, and several of his brothers before him, Julian Marley chose a musical path, establishing himself as a key figure in the reggae scene as a singer, songwriter, producer, and collaborator. A multi-instrumentalist from a young age, Julian collaborated with his brothers Damian, Stephen, and Ky-Mani Marley in the Ghetto Youths Crew collective, before launching his solo career with the album *Lion in the Morning* in 1996. He then toured internationally, both with his band The Uprising and through various family projects. His solo career reached a new level with the release of the critically acclaimed album *Awake* in 2009. Released by Universal and the family label Ghetto Youths United, *Awake* marked a turning point for Julian. The album won Best Album of the Year at the International Reggae and World Music Awards and was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Reggae Album category.
