Judy Collins revolutionized folk music. With a crystalline voice and a repertoire that blurred the boundaries of traditional genres, this Seattle native made a name for herself in the bustling Greenwich Village of New York City. A classical piano prodigy, a talented guitarist, a brilliant adapter, and later a singer-songwriter with a three-octave range, the luminous Collins signed with Elektra Records, Jac Holzman's label, in 1961 and remained there for nearly twenty-five years. Today, Real Gone Music and SecondDisc Records revisit the first decade of this extraordinary career that continues to shine. The compilation « The '60s Singles » brings together, for the first time, the impressive collection of 45s that shaped Collins's discography. With songs by Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Randy Newman, Sandy Denny, Eric Andersen, and Joni Mitchell — including the international hit « Both Sides Now » — Collins's early singles on Elektra reflected impeccable taste, a boundless musical imagination, a thirst for exploring genres ranging from rock to melody, and a strong social conscience. Each of these fourteen tracks is presented in its original mix — most being unique versions, the first ten in mono and the last four in stereo. These versions, unavailable for over fifty years, have all been carefully restored for this collection.
