La princesse jaune + Mélodies persanes

Description

Camille Saint-Saëns, a globe-trotting artist, composed 'La Princesse jaune' in 1872; the work illustrates the Japan-mania of the time. Kornélis, played by tenor Mathias Vidal, dreams only of the Land of the Rising Sun. Under the influence of a hallucinogenic potion, he falls in love with Ming, a fantasized princess. His cousin Léna - soprano Judith van Wanroij - despairs of this passion and dares not confess her own feelings to Kornélis, who will return to reason.The duration of this opera allows this recording to offer, as a lyrical supplement, an unpublished version of Saint-Saëns's six Mélodies persanes, providing an opportunity to differently pull the thread of an exoticism turned toward other horizons. These works are performed by the Orchestre national du Capitole de Toulouse, under the baton of Leo Hussain.
