The album includes only one vocal piece, \"Remission.\" Since studying lute in New York with Patrick O'Brien in the 1990s, Van Wissem has created works rooted in classical Renaissance and Baroque forms as well as contemporary sounds exploring drones, electronic music, and field recordings. Influenced by no-wave and industrial scenes and driven by a minimalist approach, Jozef Van Wissem creates a singular body of work with often paradoxical sounds: meditative and intense, avant-garde and mysterious. The magazine The Quietus calls him \"probably the world's most famous lutenist.\" He collaborates with filmmaker and musician Jim Jarmusch, notably on the award-winning soundtrack for the film *Only Lovers Left Alive*, which earned him the Best Film Score Award at Cannes in 2013. He has also composed music for the video games *The Sims Medieval* (2011), *Uncle Howard* (2016), *Land* (2018), *Irma Vep* (2022), *Queens* (2023), and *Un Prince* (2024). In 2025, he completed a world tour as a duo with Jarmusch, and their fifth album, *The Day The Angels Cried*, was released on that occasion.
