For Joyer, the East Coast indie rock duo made up of brothers Nick and Shane Sullivan, distance has become a recurring theme: geographical, emotional, and creative distance. On their new album *On the Other End of the Line…*, they explore the impact of these successive separations, between displacement and the need for connection. The record is built as a sensitive reflection, tinged with hope, where the two brothers confront their perspectives on constantly evolving environments, between inner tensions and desires for appeasement. Since the release of *Night Songs* in 2024, Nick and Shane have each moved—one to Philadelphia, the other to Brooklyn—while touring across the United States alongside Horse Jumper of Love, Wishy, and villagerrr. It was a trying but foundational experience that strengthened their bond and rekindled their desire to write. Back in the studio in Chicago with Henry Stoehr (Slow Pulp), the duo freed themselves from constraints to reconnect with a form of spontaneity, like the early days of homemade demos in the family basement. Less shoegaze, more folk, and more direct too, *On the Other End of the Line…* marks a turning point in Joyer’s songwriting: more introspective, more raw, more audacious.
