In 2004, Jorja Chalmers moved to London from Sydney, Australia with zero money, her saxophone, and a huge crush on an English boy. Fast forward 3 years later… Bryan Ferry's assistant caught Jorja playing in a nightclub in London. The next day, she received a message from him inviting her to audition for his band.
Human Again was then written and recorded by Jorja in hotel rooms. Final touches were added and distilled in Ferry's London studio, then brushed by the sparkling hands of Johnny Jewel with Dean Hurley. The combination is intoxicating. In a Bowie & Eno-style minimalism, her voice reflects the beginnings of Laurie Anderson alongside the troubled haze of Badalamenti's score for Lost Highway, and the unfortunate spell of Goblin. Chalmers embraces the claustrophobia of a John Carpenter film cut with the patience and precision of Amon Duul.
