Don't stay out late

Description

Johnny Clarke is one of the great singers who dominated the Jamaican reggae scene from the mid-1970s to the early 1980s, the Dancehall era. This reissue of his album « Don't Stay Out Late » shows his versatility in singing any song offered to him and making it his own. Under the direction of producer Bunny « Striker » Lee, Clarke produced a series of singles and albums that few could match.Johnny Clarke (born 1955, Jamaica, West Indies) recorded his first record « God Made the See and Sun », after winning a local singing competition in the Bull Bay area of Jamaica. Although the single was not a hit, it led to two subsequent tracks for producer Rupie Edwards, « Everyday Wandering » and « Julie », which were much more successful, both on the island and abroad, in England and Canada. These tracks also caught the attention of producer Bunny Lee and forged a working relationship that would yield a prolific musical catalog.Johnny Clarke's Dread Conscious/Love Song style would adorn many hits during that time in 1974. All the new songs were added to a host of cover versions, recommended by Bunny Lee, many of which were taken from the catalog of singer John Holt, which suited Clarke's vocal style. The rhythms were recorded at various studios on the island. Randy's Studio 17, Channel I, Treasure Isle, Dynamic Sounds and Harry J's by a group of musicians loosely called The Aggravators and whose voice was that of King Tubby's studio.
