After an artistic rebirth with The Healer in 1989, John Lee Hooker entered Russian Hill Recording in San Francisco and The Record Plant in Sausalito to reimagine some of his most iconic songs, including Boom Boom, which gives this album its title. An impressive cast of contemporary blues greats participated in the sessions, including Charlie Musselwhite, Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Cray, and Albert Collins.
