Description

Piano Works 2016-2026 brings together fourteen impromptu pieces by composer and producer John Carroll Kirby, written during his travels when he could sit at the piano. Recorded in Los Angeles, Rome, Tokyo, Wollongong, London, and New Zealand, these works, primarily solo, move away from the full band sound of his recent albums Blowout and Septet, which he has played on world tours in recent years. The album explores various repertoires (baroque, romantic, impressionist, jazz, minimalist, atonal) with a spontaneous, improvised, or one-take composed approach. The single "Suntory" features contributions from Tony Buchen and Mauro Refosco. This collection documents Kirby's life as a traveling pianist and constitutes the melodic and harmonic lexicon that has nourished all his compositions over the last decade.
