Hellendaal Cambridge sonatas

Description

Pieter Hellendaal was one of those violin stars who, like Geminiani and Veracini, performed in London as soloists during the intermissions of Handel's operas. Johannes Pramsohler examines the manuscript of Hellendaal's sonatas preserved at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and reveals a composer who, while rooted in the Corellian tradition, also recalls his master Tartini for his melodic richness, and Locatelli for his virtuosic cadences.
