This album approaches Brahms from a rare and revealing angle, gathering the authorial transcriptions for four-hand piano of the String Quintet in F major Op. 88 and the String Quintet in G major Op. 111. Far from being a mere domestic reduction, the piano medium here appears as a second place of composition, capable of shedding more light on the inner fabric, the logic of progressions, and the architectural continuity of Brahms's thought. The project illuminates both the Viennese practice of private reading, the function of transcription as a testing and dissemination tool, and the transition from fully mature Brahms to his late style. The choice of a Streicher piano adds an additional historical and timbral resonance to this perspective.
