For pianist Joel Lyssarides, jazz is first and foremost a language, a truly personal tool of expression. He composed the tracks on "Stay Now" in an isolated house in the forest, a good half-hour from Stockholm. And preferably at night, in silence, darkness, and deep concentration. The atmosphere of this place is audibly reflected in the music, which is strongly influenced by space, sound, and mood—enhanced by the highly focused and subtle playing of pianist Lyssarides, accompanied by bassist Niklas Fernqvist and drummer Rasmus Blixt. The common thread among these three young musicians is their ability to demonstrate great sensitivity and expressiveness. Their music draws on a vocabulary that takes from both European classical music and jazz from both sides of the Atlantic. Everything seems clear; one can hear a natural understanding of the possibilities offered by each combination of notes. This new trio is a beautiful discovery, already establishing itself at the forefront of young European jazz.
