Performed by Joe Pass's quartet, this album, initially released in 1962, received the most enthusiastic reviews and numerous awards, while musicians eagerly sought collaborations with the guitarist, who had since become a jazz star. What was surprising at the time was the guitarist's freedom of play, his virtuosity, always at the service of the music. Influenced by Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian, he successfully integrated be-bop's contributions and arrived at the right time in the right place (California) to gain recognition for his art and finally achieve fame.
