Trio tapestry

The great saxophonist Joe Lovano has appeared on a large number of ECM records over the past forty years, notably participating in some landmark albums by musicians such as Paul Motian, Steve Kuhn, or John Abercrombie. Trio Tapestry is however his first record as a leader for the label, which presents a wonderful new group for music with fluid lyricism, delicate textures, and entirely based on a collective interaction at all times. Lovano and pianist Marilyn Crispell in particular demonstrate a rare complicity, engaging intimately in the structural meanders of the pieces. 'Marilyn has a sound, a touch, and a vocabulary of such beauty,' enthuses Joe. Drummer Carmen Castaldi, a long-time partner of Lovano, also integrates into the trio's discourse with great sensitivity, working to enrich and detail the nuances of each piece. Trio Tapestry was recorded in New York at Sear Sound studio in March 2018, under the artistic direction of Manfred Eicher.
