Joe Henderson became one of the most influential jazz musicians of the late 20th century after making an overnight sensation as a member of Horace Silver's ensemble upon the release of Silver's "Song For My Father." The great John Scofield once said of Henderson: "Joe Henderson is the essence of jazz. He embodies all the elements that came together in his generation: the virtuosity of hard bop and the avant-garde, the roots. He is my inspiration." All the musicians on this release, including jazz greats like Chick Corea and Ron Carter, demonstrate equal talent in the art of improvisation. Each musician has their own space and each fills it brilliantly.
