Salsoul

Description

'Salsoul' is the 9th studio album by Filipino-African American singer Joe Bataan, featuring the classic "Mujer Mia." Reissued for the first time since 1973 on a limited translucent blue vinyl edition, "Salsoul" was born from Bataan's love for Salsa and Soul, which developed during his youth in New York's Spanish Harlem. The impact of Bataan's new sound was so great that "Salsoul" served as a catalyst for the creation of a label of the same name. Formed by brothers Joseph, Kenneth, and Stanley Cayre, Salsoul Records spearheaded a new generation of charismatic artists who, influenced by soul, funk, and Latin dance rhythms, gave the label a distinctive sound.Limited blue vinyl LP pressing. A landmark album from Joe Bataan - so great it made the whole record label change its name! The record allowed Joe to really break out after his seminal Latin Soul work of the late 60s - blending Latin rhythms and American soul into a brand new style of music - one that Joe called "Salsoul", due to its mix of salsa and soul! The blend is fantastic, a real milestone in the NuYorican scene - and handled perfectly by Joe on every cut! There's massive Latin funk here, including the tracks "Latin Strut" and "Aftershower Funk", plus straighter Latin jazz, like "When Sunny Gets Blue", and a superb Latin Soul track with English vocals called "Johnny".
