An iconic figure in Bossa Nova, Brazilian pianist, composer, and arranger João Donato (1934-2023) introduced a new and original rhythmic model to the genre. He exerted a profound influence, inspiring generations of musicians. João Gilberto admitted that he adopted his Bossa Nova rhythm on the guitar by drawing inspiration from Donato's piano playing.
