This is the second album on which the singer covers songs by other artists, and once again, Joan makes very interesting and surprising choices. About the new album, she tells us: "I've been working on new covers ever since the first covers album came out 11 years ago! I performed Prince's "Kiss" and my version of Blur's "Out of Time" throughout the Joanthology tour last year and finished the record as soon as I got home this winter. Recreating existing songs is a rewarding creative challenge for me, especially with songs that I adore. I start with the question "Why, exactly, do I love this song"? I take those elements and reformulate them, sometimes stripping away much of the remaining material to refocus them through new lenses. I reharmonize the chords, drastically change the feel, or shift the hook or phrasing to reconstruct the composition."
